First Universal Mobile Payments Platform goes Live

Mobile payments are now truly a reality as Luup today launches the first universal mobile payments platform. The launch is the result of the integration of the Temenos T24 core banking application and Microsoft BizTalk with Luup's mobile payment services platform.

Luup CEO, Martin Wilson, explained: "We believe that Luup's new payment platform heralds a major shift in the mobile payments sector. Through Luup, banks have the opportunity to serve corporate and retail markets using a single universal mobile payments platform.2. They can now offer mobile payment services in developed and emerging markets anywhere in the world through any mobile device and on any network. This is an industry first."

The integration of market leading applications with Luup's platform enables Luup to provide the most advanced mobile payments managed service available. It combines the scale to deal with large transaction volumes with the mission critical standards that banks require to meet regulatory and security requirements.

Martin Wilson continued: "Financial institutions require the capabilities, reliability and scalability of a bank-grade platform to capture a significant share of the predicted $426 billion market. As the only independent global provider of mobile payments, we have created an international remittance eco-system for banks and corporates, connecting senders and receivers of funds across the globe."

For its solutions Luup has further developed leading technology from Temenos and Microsoft, including Microsoft BizTalk, to provide several business-enhancing functions.

Karen Cone, general manager of Worldwide Financial Services at Microsoft Corp., commented on the announcement: "Mobile payments are set to change the shape of the payments world. Microsoft technology is used throughout the payments value chain - from payments channels like Windows Phone to mission-critical processing workloads. By running its solutions on Microsoft's SQL Server and BizTalk Server, Luup provides its customers with workflow management and dynamic interfaces that offer enhanced management of payment services."

Android Retains Top Spot as Favourite Smartphone in Britain

Intelligent Environments, a digital banking provider and part of the Parseq Group, reveals that Android phones remain the most popular smartphones for British consumers, with 30 per cent of smartphone users surveyed opting for this platform, up from 28 per cent in March.

This increase widens Google's smartphone lead over Apple in Great Britain. According to the YouGov survey conducted online, 27 per cent of smartphone users surveyed now own an iPhone compared to 26 per cent in the first quarter of the year.

RIM's BlackBerry remains third in line when it comes to smartphone ownership although it has seen resurgence in the last few months with 19 per cent of smartphone users now owning a Blackberry versus 14 per cent in March.

The growing uptake of smartphone adoption looks set to continue with a separate study finding that a third (34%) of standard phone owners want to get a smartphone next time they upgrade or purchase a mobile handset.

James Richards, Director of Mobile at Intelligent Environments, said: "From retail to financial services, businesses in all sectors are taking full advantage of the rise in consumer smartphone adoption. While the iPhone is the bastion of apps, this research shows that businesses cannot be complacent and must cater to Android and BlackBerry users too. More importantly, businesses should focus on mobile applications and services that bring convenience and simplicity to consumers' lives."

ValidSoft Awarded 2nd. European Privacy Seal

ValidSoft, a supplier of fraud prevention, authentication and transaction verification solutions, has been awarded a European Privacy Seal by EuroPriSe for its VALid-4F. ValidSoft is a subsidiary of Elephant Talk Communications, Inc., an international provider of business software to the telecommunications and the financial industry.

ValidSoft aims to redefine the prevention of fraud by providing banks, businesses and governments with strong, telephone-based, real-time systems to authenticate and verify transactions. Whether in "card present" (e.g. ATM-related), "card not present" (e.g. internet shopping), and online banking or self-certification (e.g. provision of social benefits), it can protect against the most sophisticated types of fraud.

The second European Privacy Seal is awarded for VALid-4F which applies to self-certification solutions, those being especially relevant to governments. In an increasingly mobile and global world, it is becoming more and more important that individuals can quickly and simply certify, by and for themselves, over a mobile phone, who they are, and that they are fulfilling certain conditions, including whether they are, or not, in a particular country or jurisdiction. It is also crucial in such circumstances that the relevant self-certification is reliable and verifiable. The product achieves this without privacy-intrusive processing, in a way that is fully compliant with European data protection standards.

ValidSoft was awarded its first EuroPriSe Seal in March 2010 for VALid-POS, which is a telecommunication-based, security solution designed to combat card transaction fraud at ATMs or points of sale. EuroPriSe is an initiative set up by the European Union data protection authorities, and was launched in 2007 under the eTEN program of Directorate General (DG) Information Society and Media.
