Multicard Rolls out Mobile Payment Solution across Holland

Multicard has announced the expanded roll-out of its Cashless Betalen mobile payment solution across Holland. Cashless Betalen is the account management application behind the digital wallet offered by Rabobank, one of the leading banks in the Netherlands.

Cashless Betalen allows users to manage their accounts easily and use their mobile devices. The Cashless Betalen interface can be securely accessed with any Internet connection via computer or mobile device. In addition, Multicard is providing digital wallet customers with secure NFC tokens that enable mobile phones and other devices to be used to make cashless payments. The NFC tokens take the form of stickers.

"We are very excited about Cashless Betalen and its implications for both consumers and merchants. If widely adopted in Holland, we believe that Cashless Betalen would represent the largest digital wallet community outside Japan in the near term," said Pieter Kooistra, managing director of Multicard Netherlands

Aconite launches Mobile Application Management Solution

Aconite Mobile Application Manager enables application issuers to install and to manage the life-cycles of apps in the mobile handset's Secure Element using the new standards for mobile application management and security that have been published by GlobalPlatform. With increasing numbers of NFC mobiles now rolling out, there is growing demand for this solution across many sectors, including payments, access, ID, loyalty, ticketing and proximity marketing.

To allow an application issuer such as a bank, transit operator or card personalisation bureau to deliver their apps to all their customers, irrespective of their brand of phone, mobile network or the type of Secure Element(s) the phone contains, Aconite Mobile Application Manager creates and manages the issuer's Security Domain and provides data preparation and secure delivery of apps and updates. These are sent to the appropriate TSM (Trusted Service Manager) for the individual customer's mobile, which then delivers the apps or updates to the handset.

Mike Woods, Aconite CEO, said "Providing a mobile solution for our existing and future customers is a natural extension of Aconite's existing smart card solutions. The mobile market is developing at a rapid pace and in responding to that Aconite will be making further announcements in the near future on its market plans and global mobile partnerships."

Patients' Details Binned on Two Occasions

University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust breached the Data Protection Act by losing patients' medical information on two separate occasions, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) said today.

In February, records relating to the treatment of 18 patients were found in a communal waste bin at a residential apartment block. The information had been taken home by a member of staff and accidentally disposed of in a public bin along with other rubbish.

In a second incident - which took place in May - a member of the public discovered details relating to a patient's sensitive medical procedures and test results which were allegedly found in a bin outside Coventry University Hospital.

The ICO's investigation found that the trust's policies and procedures on the use of personal information were not sufficient. During the Commissioner's investigation, concerns were also raised about the delivery and collection point for patient notes at one of the Trust's hospitals.
