Iceland's first Mobile Payments Project
Oberthur Technologies has announced that the company has partnered with Visa Europe and Valitor to launch Iceland's first mobile contactless payment project.
Using Oberthur Technologies' SIM card device, which provides integrated support for NFC, the partners will work with Iceland's key mobile network operators, to select 1,000 participants for the initial adoption in January 2012.
The full-scale pilot will begin in the second half of 2012. Due to Valitor's established relationship with the Icelandic banks, combined with 600 mobile contactless Point of Sale terminals already existing in the greater Reykjavik area, this new technology will be easily available to the majority of the country's population.
Mr. Fredrik Westerman General Manager, Nordics and Baltics, Visa Europe: "Iceland is one of our most successful markets. Both the size of the market and high level of credit card usage makes Iceland an ideal test environment to launch tomorrow's new method of payment.

Precise Biometrics Appoints Exclusive Distributor in Brazil
Precise Biometrics has chosen GD Burti, Giesecke & Devrient's Brazilian subsidiary, to be the exclusive distributor of its fingerprint/smartcard readers in Brazil. The Brazilian National ID card will provide all Brazilian citizens with a unique credential. The chip will contain the person's fingerprints, enabling them to be securely identified, and biometric readers are needed to access the information on the card.
Precise Biometrics' CEO Thomas Marschall said, "The scale of the Brazilian National ID and the ways it will be used require accurate and easy-to-use readers. Precise Sense is a perfect fit.
The Brazilian National ID will be rolled out over the next nine years, and hardware infrastructure is expected to be in place earlier than prior national ID rollouts.
