Novacroft is Awarded TfL Concessionary Oyster Photocard Contract
Novacroft a Northamptonshire-based organisation designing, developing and managing innovative end-to-end smart card ticketing solutions, has been awarded the contract to manage Transport for London's 5 - 10, 11 - 15, Under 16, 16+ and 18+ concessionary Oyster photocard schemes for three years from 1st July 2011, with a possible two year extension. The contract award comes following a competitive retender process.
Having managed TfL's concessionary Oyster photocard schemes since 2001, Novacroft has a proven track record of success in the TfL environment, and offers a fully integrated end-to-end solution including card production, card management, contact centre services and software design and implementation.

Nokia Enables NFC with Symbian Anna Update
Yesterday Nokia released an updated version of Symbian Anna for Symbian smartphones, which significantly enhances the user experience on the Nokia N8, Nokia C7, Nokia C6-01 and Nokia E7.
Symbian Anna software update also activates the NFC hardware in the Nokia C7, so people can now simply tap their Nokia C7s together to share contacts, photos, videos and play games; easily pair with NFC-enabled accessories from Nokia and others; and read NFC tags to check-in and more.
Other features include: A new user interface, virtual QWERTY keypad in portrait mode, split-screen messaging, enhanced Nokia Maps, better web browsing and stronger security are just a few of the improvements that people will be able to enjoy.

Wavestore Integrates with FaceFirst Biometric Facial Recognition Software
The new technology partnership established between Wavestore and Airborne Biometrics Group, Inc. (ABG) brings an additional dimension to Wavestore's ability to provide high performance video recording solutions, with the added functionality of facial recognition.
The innovative FaceFirst biometric facial recognition software offers the police and military, as well as personnel responsible for security in business environments such as retail, with the ability to identify suspects, VIPs and employees within seconds of them entering a specific area, allowing appropriate action to be taken.
Wavestore has welcomed the ability to distribute this powerful technology which, compared to the facial recognition software previously available offers dramatically improved identification accuracy. Using 2D algorithms FaceFirst is able to perform over one million facial comparisons per second per server.
Using innovative compression and data transmission technology, ABG has also allowed FaceFirst to be truly mobile, by using the add-on 'Mobile Communications Module' for images taken on mobile telephones, SD digital cameras and other smart devices, to send facial recognition match requests to be identified.

iZettle App Takes Credit and Debit Card Payments Anytime, Anywhere
iZettle has announced its iZettle App for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch is now available on the Swedish App Store. iZettle is a mobile payment app providing users with the ability to take credit and debit card payments anytime, anywhere.
The iZettle App can be used with or without an iZettle card reader accessory, however using iZettle with the card reader is great for large and frequent transactions. The iZettle App is simple to set up with no monthly fee. Instead, for each transaction using iZettle, users will be charged 2.75 percent of the sale plus 1.50 SEK. (GBP 0.14)

ViVOtech Ships EMV Payments and NFC mCommerce-Ready Reader
ViVOtech announces the availability of its new point of sale (POS) terminal for payments and NFC mobile commerce that could save eligible merchants more than $2 billion a year in annual Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) validation costs under a Visa Inc. initiative.
ViVOtech's new ViVOpay 8100 terminals accept traditional swipe cards with magnetic stripes, chip cards, contactless cards, and NFC-enabled mobile phones, as required by the Visa initiative announced last week to accelerate the migration to Eurocard-MasterCard-Visa (EMV) contact and contactless chip technology in the United States.
To motivate merchants, Visa announced on August 9, 2011: "Effective October 1, 2012, Visa will expand its Technology Innovation Program (TIP) to the U.S. TIP will eliminate the requirement for eligible merchants to annually validate their compliance with the PCI Data Security Standard for any year in which at least 75 percent of the merchant's Visa transactions originate from chip-enabled terminals. To qualify, terminals must be enabled to support both contact and contactless chip acceptance, including mobile contactless payments based on NFC technology."
The new ViVOpay 8100 includes ViVOtech NFC checkout technology that enables merchants to accept and process coupons, personalised offers, loyalty programs and payments through the merchant's proprietary mobile applications.
