App55 and WorldPay Offer White Label Payment-by-password for Mobile

Online application provider App55 today announced their new venture with WorldPay to offer retailers their Card Hub platform. Retailers around the globe can now offer their customers secure credit card purchases in-app and from any web-enabled device using just a password.

The flexibility of App55's Card Hub lets retailers include payment-by-password from within their brand for current online business as well mobile and social commerce.

Gabriel Hopkins, Head of eCommerce Products at WorldPay added: "There is no doubt that m-commerce is a key growth area. It is vital for retailers to keep pace with demand by introducing new and innovative payment mechanisms in line with customer expectations. The new solution will offer simple and convenient payments, which could prove instrumental in driving future revenues."

M-commerce continues to establish itself as a major source of online revenue. By the end of 2012, Gartner predicts that 12% of all e-commerce transactions will be mobile. However, for businesses to gain maximum benefit the purchasing experience must be quick and intuitive for consumers across all channels to avoid high drop-out rates.



Identive Group Announces 21% Rise in Second Quarter 2011 Results

Identive Group, Inc. a provider of products, services and solutions for the security, identification and RFID industries, today announced results for the fiscal second quarter (Q2), ended June 30, 2011.

Revenue in Q2 2011 was $25.6 million, up 21% from $21.2 million in Q2 2010 and up 14% from $22.4 million in the first quarter (Q1) of 2011. Sales in Q2 were driven by strong demand for identity management solutions for consumer and citizen ID applications globally as well as ongoing implementations of employee physical and IT access control systems, offset by continued temporary project delays with some U.S. government customers. Q2 2011 sales reflected 14% organic growth year over year net of the effect of acquisitions.

"In this time of continued economic uncertainty and various project delays, we have been able to deliver solid sales growth and continue to win important new business globally," said Ayman S. Ashour, chairman and chief executive officer of Identive Group. "Sales in Q2 again showed increasing momentum across nearly all our markets, as the need for secure ID solutions continues to grow to support new mobile applications, citizen ID programs, and more single-credential, multi-function campus environments."



STMicroelectronics Reveals Latest-generation Microcontroller for Calypso Travel Cards

As urban transport networks and other electronic ticketing operators seek to improve their smart-card based services, STMicroelectronics has unveiled a new secure IC supporting the latest version of the popular Calypso ticketing open standard. The chip supports extra, innovative services, and is unique in offering backward compatibility with legacy Calypso readers, allowing operators to introduce next-generation cards quickly and effectively.

Electronic ticketing has been widely adopted in urban transport networks worldwide, successfully speeding up transactions, reducing queuing and lowering costs. The Calypso ticketing open standard was developed by a consortium of European operators to suit public transportation and other ticketing uses. More than 80 networks in 21 countries now operate travel cards based on Calypso, and more than 52 million cards have been issued. Calypso Revision 3, as supported by ST's latest chip, delivers extra services such as e-purse, loyalty rewards or USB key.

The CD21-Rev3 solution is based on a secure microcontroller IC which is certified compliant with all necessary and appropriate standards: the EMV global standard and achieves EAL5+ Common Criteria security assurance. It also meets the established ISO/IEC 14443 and ISO/IEC 7816 smart-card standards and is compliant with the EMVCo Level 1 radio interface specification. Meeting these standards allows use in many other access control, payment and ticketing applications such as municipal services, events and corporate or student card schemes, in addition to transportation.



Cryptomathic Opens USA Office

Cryptomathic has opened its first office in the USA, which is located in San Jose, California in the Silicon Valley. The new operation will be headed up by Cryptomathic's Executive Vice President, Matt Landrock and is ideally positioned to support the e-security solution provider's existing and future USA customer base, which includes card processors, payment schemes and technology providers.

The significant growth in its USA customer-base over recent months has been the key driving factor behind Cryptomathic's decision to open its fifth international operation. The new facility will complement the existing network which includes Cryptomathic's UK-based innovation centre, Denmark's research and development operation and two further offices in Germany and Canada.

Matt Landrock has played a central role in Cryptomathic's global expansion since he joined the company more than 15 years ago and was responsible for establishing both the German and Canadian locations. Commenting on his latest position to launch the USA operation, Matt said: "The Silicon Valley is home to some of the world's largest technology corporations and is at the core of high-tech innovation and development. Once the commercial decision was made to open in the USA, we felt that this location would allow us to effectively monitor regional e-security solution market requirements and efficiently respond. Additionally, as our Canadian office is in Montreal, Cryptomathic can now service the entire region coast-to-coast."

Established 25 years ago, Cryptomathic was one of the first companies in the world to provide e-security solutions to businesses across a wide range of industry sectors. It's Founder and President, Peter Landrock, is still recognised today for his pioneering work to advance cryptographic methods and was shortlisted last year for the European Inventor Award for 2010 within the lifetime achievement category.



Biometric Technology Firm Joins the Austin Technology Incubator

Tactical Information Systems (TIS), an innovator in complex and emerging biometric technologies, joins the Austin Technology Incubator (ATI), a unit of the IC2Institute of The University of Texas at Austin, in its IT focus area.

Tactical Information Systems becomes part of the incubator after having won the Austin Chamber of Commerce award at IBM's exclusive Smart Camp, which identifies early stage entrepreneurs whose business ventures align with IBM's Smarter Planet vision.

"We're honoured to join ATI, and are excited to take advantage of the wide range of resources here that will lead to our company's growth acceleration," said Mary Haskett, co-founder and CEO of TIS. "The incubator's proven track record, capital connections, and expertise in emerging tech sectors make it a perfect launch pad for our company and the WanderID product."

TIS provides cloud-based biometric matching of fingerprints, palm prints, and iris and facial images. The company's newest product, WanderID, uses facial recognition technology to identify individuals who cannot reliably communicate in case of emergency, such as Alzheimer's patients and young children. WanderID will be featured at the National Down's Syndrome Congress in San Antonio, Texas, August 5-7, 2011.
