Citibank and Bibit Rollout Visa's 3D Secure

European payment service provider, Bibit, has formed an alliance with Citibank to implement Visa's new 3-D Secure payment technology at Bibit merchants in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Benelux countries. The deal will establish Citibank as the first acquiring bank in Europe to commit to the 3-D Secure technology.

3-D Secure provides Visa Member banks with the ability to confirm that a genuine Visa cardholder and merchant have actively participated in an e-commerce transaction via user authentication. Bibit Germany's Managing Director Rainer Stecken said that the use of the technology will "enhance significantly consumers' confidence in paying online".

iRV Set To Acquire Scarab Systems

iRV has signed a non-binding letter of intent to acquire Nevada-based Smart Card company Scarab Systems.

iRV will inherit Scarab's Smart Card program which works with existing processing and billing platforms and encryption technology and uses existing POS and ATM systems. Scarab claim this eliminates the cost-prohibitive infrastructure that is required with most Smart Card implementations.

"Scarab Systems licensed technology provides exciting prospects for innovative payment solutions that we feel represent a valuable contribution in iRV's strategy of expanding its technological asset base. The acquisition of Scarab represents a critical step in the process of implementing technologies that deliver recurring revenue," said iRV President Clifford C. Thygesen. The acquisition will proceed subject to the completion of specific terms and conditions to be laid out in a definitive agreement.
