Smart Card Alliance to Measure Smart Card Usage

The Smart Card Alliance is to conduct a survey to determine the usage of Smart Cards in the US and Canada. The research will be conducted by KPMG and results from the initial phase will be presented at the Alliance's Annual Meeting on 9-12 October.

"As a strong voice for Smart Card adoption, the Alliance is proud to sponsor this original research that will provide the first concrete data on our industry in the 21st century," said Bill Randle, the Alliance Chairman.

The top 10 Smart Card manufacturers supplying the US and Canadian markets will be asked to report on shipments according to 10 specific industry categories, such as wireless, financial and retail. The initial survey will cover shipments made in 1999, 2000 and the first half of 2001. A follow-up survey covering the last half of 2001 will be made in the first quarter of 2002.

Keyware SignOn for Windows

Keyware has announced the availability of CAS (Centralized Authentication Server) SignOn for Windows, a client/server logon security solution for Windows NT and Windows 2000 networks. CAS SignOn enhances text based password systems enabling end-users to authenticate themselves to an enterprise network by using biometric technology. It uses Keyware's LBV (Layered Biometric Verification) capabilities,

"Companies are demanding increased security, especially in network logon processes," said Ray Desrochers, vice president engineering of Keyware. "CAS SignOn for Windows is one of the first products to use biometrics to directly solve network logon security concerns. Because it can be adapted to any company's existing security infrastructure, it also offers impressive security protection without the cost associated with creating an entire new system."
