GalatIC Card Achieves Visa approval

Oberthur Card Systems has achieved Visa approval with its GalatIC 2.1 payment card with integrated PKI and RSA functionality. The GalatIC card is a Java(tm) based, open platform 2.0.1, multi-application Smart Card that enables secure multi-channel payment.

The card enables cardholders to pay securely for goods via the home PC, mobile phone, television or at a point of sale in a shop or kiosk. The integration of the RSA and PKI functionalities ensures that the Galactic 2.1 card employs the highest level of security currently available for securing payment transactions, particularly in an 'online' environment.

Bell ID launches ANDiS Application Management System Release 3

Rotterdam-based software house Bell ID has launched Release 3 of its ANDiS Application Management System (AMS), offering extensive application management for multi-functional Smart Cards.

The company says that a key feature of Release 3 is the Post Issuance Personalisation module which enables the card issuer or application provider to add, update or remove a service even after a card is issued. These remote actions may take place via the Internet or via a client /server environment. Face-to-face contact with the cardholder is not necessary.

Motorola $213 Million GSM Contract in China

Motorola has won a $213 million contract from China Mobile Communications Corporation to expand the operator's GSM900/1800 dual band network in Hunan Province. This is Motorola's fourth GSM contract valued at over $100 million from Hunan Mobile since 1998.

The expansion projects are expected to increase network capacity by 2.8 million subscribers.

Eurosmart Re-elects Lutz Martiny as Chairman

Eurosmart, the European Smart Card Industry Association based in Brussels, re-elected Dr Lutz Martiny to be its Chairman at its general assembly. They also welcomed three new members, Inside Technologies, FUJITSU & SETEC OY.

PETCO Installing Hypercom Terminals

PETCO Animal Supplies, a large retail pet supplier, is installing 2,400 Hypercom epic ICE 6000 card payment terminals and Hypercom's epicreceipts electronic receipt capture service in its 530-plus US retail stores.

The ICE 6000 comes equipped with a variety of communications options, incorporates a firewall-protected multi-application operating system, EMV chip card capability, secure PIN pad, and built-in HTML/HTTP web browser.

Datacard Redesigns Web Site

Datacard Group reports that it has launched a redesigned Web site ( providing visitors with expert information on a wide range of card-related technologies, such as Smart Cards, digital printing, laser engraving, biometrics and virtual identity systems.
