Schlumberger Announces e-Commerce Security Innovation

Schlumberger Network Solutions has announced the development of Schlumberger Smart Port services, a new technology to improve the security and manageability of Web-based transactions.

In the past, Web transactions were "secured" by easily cracked passwords that failed to provide non-repudiation. Smart Port provides authentication, privacy and authorisation for online transactions, permitting businesses to safely conduct virtual transactions while leveraging substantial investments in Internet software and hardware, says the company.

Smart Port is currently offered as a fully managed solution, with back-end hardware securely locked in a room accessible only to authorised personnel who must first use a Smart Card reader and then pass through a biometric scanner for access.
